"Melton - William Melton of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1923, in Glasgow, KY, he was the son of Thomas L. and Frances (Johnson) Melton. He married Annie Bell Riddle on December 16, 1942, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Mary Frances Terrell and her husband, Bill, Linda Hoppe and her husband, Danny, and Brenda Gilstrap, all of Mitchell, IN; one son, Jerry Melton and his wife, Mary Lou, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Delia Perkins of Summer Shade, KY; two brothers, Lloyd Melton of Mitchell, IN, and Billy Melton of Louisville, KY; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nellie Sue Slaten; and one sister, Mary Lizzie Pittman. He retired from the City of Mitchell as street commissioner with 16 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a member of Mt Pisgiah Church in Bow, KY. Services for William Melton will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the service time Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home. Bedford IN newspaper.
