EMANCIPATION: Montgomery - Caldwell Co Loose County Court Papers, Caldwell Co, KY Clerk's Office "At a County Court Begin & held for the Caldwell County at the Court House in the Town of Princeton on Monday the fifteenth day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and thirty Six: John MONTOMGERY (a free man of Colour) produced in open Court a Deed of emancipation Setting free his negro Woman named Abbey (his wife) and his infant Son named Jackson which Deed is here ordered to be Recorded to wit: Know all men by these presents that I John Montgomery (a free man of Colour) of the County of Caldwell & State of Kentucky from motives of benevolence and humanity have manumitted and do hereby manumit & set free from Slavery my negro woman Abbey aged about thirty three years black complexion, And my infant Son Jackson aged 6 months. And I do hereby give, grant & release to her the said Abbey and my Son of all my right, title & claim of, in and to their person & labour and Service and of in and to the estate & property which they may hereafter acquire or obtain. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & seal this 15th day of February 1836.
