C. SEELE Thomas MONTGOMERY 8344 Pershing Avenue W. 8474 St. Louis, Missouri 3A-J/AWF Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of Thomas MONTGOMERY, who received a pension in 1832, while living in Nelson County, Kentucky, and that of John JARVIS of Virginia, born July 28, 1754, married in 1780, Mary FIELDS who died in 1788, and who in 1803 went to Illinois and married in 1808, Sarah G. WADDLE and died in 1822. There is no claim for pension on file based upon service in the Revolutionary War of John JARVIS, described above. The papers in pension claim, W. 8474, based upon service of Thomas MONTGOMERY in the Revolutionary War, have been examined very carefully and the following found. Thomas MONTGOMERY enlisted sometime in September, 1776 and served as private in Captain Van SWEARINGEN'S company, Colonel MACKEY'S Eight Pennsylvania Regiment until sometime in April 1777, when he was transferred to Colonel MORGAN'S Rifle Regiment, was in the battle of Edge Hill and both battles of Saratoga, and served until sometime in June, 1778, when he rejoined his former regiment, then commanded by Colonel BAYARD and was discharged in the month of September, 1779. Thomas MONTGOMERY was allowed pension on his application executed September 5, 1832, at which time he was aged eighty-two years and living in Nelson County, Kentucky. Thomas MONTGOMERY married July 26, 1787 in Amherst County, Virginia, Frances (Fanny) POLLARD; they were both then of said Amherst County. She stated that her husband, Thomas MONTGOMERY, died September 24, 1833 in Washington County, Kentucky. The widow, Frances MONTGOMERY, was allowed pension on her application executed April 14, 1851, then aged eighty-six years and a resident of Washington County, Kentucky. She died February 18, 1857. A son, Thomas Montgomery, Jr., stated in April, 1834 that his father was then alive. The treasury Department reported that the soldier, Thomas MONTGOMERY, died August 30, 1834 and that the last payment was made to a son, John MONTGOMERY, Executor. The papers in this claim contain no further data relative to family. Very truly yours, A. D.
