"WAS ONE OF GLASGOW'S MOST PROMINENT MERCHANTS; STORE CLOSES. E. H. Guthrie, who qualified as Executor of the will of Gus Morris, Monday, is having an inventory of the stock made prepatory to closing out the entire stock of merchandise in accordance with the will; which was probated Monday. The stores will remain closed until further announcement from Mr. Guthrie. "Glasgow lost one of the best businessmen who ever lived here, when Mr. Gus Morris died at his home on Brown street, last Thursday, at the age of 51 years. Mr. Morris was a native of Glasgow, a son of the late Mr. E. Morris who began as a "Pack peddler," and died the wealthiest merchant of Glasgow. Mr. Morris has spent his entire life in Glasgow, and had succeeded to a marked degree. His entire business life has been spent on the corner of Washington and Green streets, known as the Morris Corner, first with his father, as a boy, and later as the junior member of the firm of Depp & Morris, and for a number of years he has gone alone under his own name, operating a department store, and enjoying an immense patronage from both town and country people. "He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Annie Redding, and two children, Mr. William Redding Morris and Miss Helen Morris. His mtoher, Mrs. E. Morris of Chicago, survives him, as do the following brothers: Messrs. Louis Morris of Louisville, Julius Morris of New Orleans, Herman, Fred and Max Morris of Chicago. Mr. Arthur Krock, the well known newspaper man of New York, is a nephew. "Mr. Morris was one of the most popular merchants in town, as he was always smiling and cheerful. He knew everybody, and what they wanted and bought their produce at generous prices. He knew his business. There was scarcely an article in his entire stock but what Mr. Morris knew both the wholesale and retail prices without looking. We feel safe in saying there was never a better posted merchant in Glasgow and the country people are especially grieved at his untimely passing. :He made a brave and determined fight against the inevitable, but his trouble was beyond human skill. "Funeral services were held at the family residence Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. A. Easley assisted by Rev. J. L. Piercy in the presence of a concourse of friends -- burial in Morris' lot in Glasgow Cemetery." Additional article: THE DEATH OF MR. GUS MORRIS HRE.
