From: KyArchives Sent: Friday, April 13, 2018 4:32 PM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: O'connell.Charles.Preston.1986.Breckinridge.OBIT Charles Preston O'CONNELL May 24, 1986 Breckinridge County KyArchives Obituaries Breckinridge County Herald-News, Hardinsburg, Ky., Wednesday, May 28, 1986 OBITUARY O'CONNELL IS KILLED IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT Charles Preston O'CONNELL, age 59, of Louisville, Ky (Jefferson County), died Saturday, May 24, 1986 from injuries he sustained in a tractor accident near Hardinsburg at the intersection of Highways 105 & 992. Breckinridge County Sheriff Bobby KENNEDY stated that the accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when, according to witnesses, O'CONNELL had motioned for a vehicle behind him to pass. However, a vehicle was coming from the other direction, and O'CONNELL then directed the driver of the first vehicle not to attempt to pass. The tractor then slipped off the shoulder of the road, and overturned, pinning O'CONNELL beneath the vehicle. Witnesses stated that O'CONNELL had attempted to jump from the tractor. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. O'CONNELL was born in Breckinridge County on August 9, 1926, a son of Alfred O'CONNELL of Hardinsburg, who survives, and the late Mrs. Marie KEENAN O'CONNELL. He was a 30 year employee of the Henry Vogt Machine Company, Louisville, where he was a foreman at the time of his death. A member of the 18th Street Baptist Church in Louisville; President of the Marydale Men's Club; member of the Dixie VFW Post #220; a Veteran of World War II; and a member of the Louisville Redbirds Booster Club. Mr. O'CONNELL is survived by: his wife, Helen O'CONNELL, three sons, and four grandchildren one brother: Keenan O'CONNELL of Hardinsburg The funeral was held on Tuesday, May 27, 1986 at the Hardinsburg Baptist Church with the Trent- Dowell Funeral home in charge of arrangments. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
