Elizabeth Vanhook was born to Benjamin Lorton Vanhook and Permelia Unknown [her 
surname is specified in records as both Hicks and Curtley/Kirtley] in either 
Pulaski or Rockcastle County, Kentucky.  On 4 January 1866, at the home of her 
father Benjamin Lorton Vanhook in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Elizabeth Vanhook 
married James Thomas Oaks (Oakes), a son of Thomas Oaks and Elizabeth 
("Bettie") Marcum (Markham).  The couple had 11 children.  The "Ben Oaks" 
identified as the informant on Elizabeth's death certificate is likely their 
eldest son, Benjamin Franklin Oaks.
