OLIVER, JOHN PAUL, Major,  U.S. Marine Corps retired, 
d. near his home on the Big Andy Ridge, of a 
self-inflicted gunshot wound. Family members related he 
left the house around 6:30 a.m. and they thought they heard 
a shot shortly after.  The sheriff said his sister walked 
out the driveway some time later to check on him and found 
the body about 150 feet from the house.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam.  
He served 22 years before retiring.
