A message was received here Sunday conveying the sad intelligence that Mr. H. Clay Payne [sic] was dying at his home in Frankfort, followed by another Monday morning announcing that the end had come. "Clay Payne was the son of the late James M. Payne, Esq., one of the best men that ever lived or died in Barren county, and was himself an exceedingly popular and well-liked man. Clay Payne was well known in Barren county, where, up to the time of his removal to Frankfort some fourteen years ago, he had spent his entire life. He was possessed of a happy, genial nature that drew about him legions of friends and bound them to him by hooks of steel. The announcement of his death will bring sorrow to the hearts of all who knew him here. He was about forty-four years of age at the time of his death and leaves and wife and one child, a son, about six years old. "The remains were interred in the cemetery at Frankfort yesterday morning.
