Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Science Hill Academy in its palmiest days, and a graduate in music under Prof. Kinkle. She came here about 1858 and taught music in connection with Mrs. Todd, who had a large female school here. "Miss Lizzie was my first music teacher and was a superior woman musically and intellectually". She was married to Mr. H. B. Phillips, a leading merchant at this place at that time. He is an uncle of Mrs. J. K. Ditto and Mrs. Cal Hendricks. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips moved to Lebanon, Ky. where he has amassed quite a fortune with his brother, Jim Phillips. For several years, Mr. Hugh Phillips has been in Owensboro with his branch house and where his wife died. Many of us here remember Miss Lizzie lovingly and kindly, and to the bereaved family, we all extend kindest sympathy.
