Perrin, J.H. Battle, G.C. Kniffin NAT A. PORTER, commonwealth's attorney of the Fifth Kentucky District, is a native of Butler County, KY. He was born in 1853; is son of Rev. N. And Sarah (Helm) Porter, and is of Scotch origin. The father of Mr. Porter was born in Prince Edward County, VA, in 1798, but in 1800 immigrated with his partents to Kentucky, and after spending almost half a century as a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, died in 1873. He was a prominent minister, and a useful and honorable man. The Porter family is authoritatively traced to Virginia. Mrs. Sarah (Helm) Porter was born in Butler County, KY in 1819, and died in 1874. Nat A. Porter was educated at the private schools of his native county until he was fifteen years of age. In 1872 he went to Logan County and entered the Auburn High School, from which he graduated in 1875. After his graduation he was a teacher for two years in the same school. Subsequently he turned his attention to agriculture for some time. In 1878 he entered the law department of the Cumberland University in Wilson County, Tenn. There he graduated in 1879, and then came to Bowling Green, KY and began the practice of law. On coming to this city he formed a partnership in the law practice with the late Capt. John M. Porter, who was one of the leading lawyers of the Warren County bar. Mr. N.A.Porter is a Democrat, and in 1884 he elected to fill out the unexpired term of his brother as commonwealth's attorney of this district, and was, on the 28th of October, nominated for re-election to the office of commonwealth's attorney without opposition for a term of six years. He is a man of merit and much respected. The father of N.A.Porter was born in Prince Edward County VA Feb. 8, 1797, and died October 9, 1871 in Butler County KY. Sarah Helm was born in Butler County January 24, 1818, and died June 6, 1872.
