Deed Bk A, p 34, 35 This Indenture made this twenty sixth day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety four between James BROWN and Mary his wife of Hardin County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Peter PORTMESS on said County and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said James BROWN and Mary his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty pounds current money to them in hand paid before the sealing and delivering of these unto the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge have given granted Bargained Sold and confirmed and by these presents do give grant Bargain Sell and confirm unto the said Peter PORNESS a Certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and eighty five acres situate upon and being in Hardin County on the south side of the roling fork being the Lower End of Eli GARRODS Settlement and bounded as followeth towit. Beginning at a Beech and hickory on the bank of said fork Corner to Thomas HARGESES Land running thence south thirteen degrees west one hundred and ninety two poles to a hickory and beech in the old line thence north forty five degrees west two hundred and ninety six poles to an Elm Beech and Hickory Corner to Thomas DOVER Blayden ASSHBY and John MAYS Junr thence north forty five degrees East one hundred and twenty poles to two Buckeyes at the Mouth of Clear Creek thence up the Roling fork with the Meanders thereof to the Beginning. To have and to hold the said track or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto him the said Peter PORTMESS his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Peter PORTMESS his heirs and assigns for and the said James BROWN and Mary his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant and agree to and with the said Peter PORTMESS that they the said James BROWN and Mary his wife the one hundred and Eighty five acres of Land with all and singular on the appurtenances there unto belonging unto the said Peter PORTMESS his heirs and assigns against the claims o f all persons whatsoever will warrant and for ever defend in witness the said James BROWN and Mary his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the and year first above written James BROWN [seal] Mary BROWN [seal] At a Court held for Hardin County on Tuesday the twenty sixth of August 1794 The preceding deed was acknowledged and ordered to be Recorded Transcribed by Patricia O'Connor p-oconnor@att. net
