She was born Oct. 14, 1906, in Pearl, Ky., the daughter of Jim and Pollie Hamblin-Partin, who are both deceased. She was a very loving and devoted mother, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Middlesboro for many years. Elvie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Johnny Powers; daughter, Myrtle Lee Powers; four sons, Elmer, Troy, Albert and Johnnie Powers Jr.; sister, Delphia Partin Richards; son-in-law, W.E. Harrell; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Loveday Powers; grandson, J.B. Powers Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Powers. Survivors include her four sons, Chester Powers of Oak Ridge, the Rev. J.B. Powers and Ruby of Dayton, Ohio; Cecil Powers and Sherry of Ewing, Va., Carl Powers and Libby of Dickson, Tenn.; two daughters, Marie Partin and Dewey of Middlesboro, Ky., Geneva Harrell of Tacoma, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mae Davis of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ethel Maiden of Middlesboro, Ky.; one brother, Bill Partin of Xenia, Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel in Middlesboro, Ky. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Chuck Summers officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Powers, Johnny Powers, Travis Powers, and Aaron Powers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth and Kenny Rutherford, Brian Orick, Delbert Marlow, Percy Pursifull, and Dr. Thomas Epperson and Dr. Robert Matheny, staff of Middlesboro Health Care facility. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 839 Middlesboro, KY 40965.
