Fuson pg 172 James Pursifull was elected and served as County Judge of Bell County. He belonged to the large and strong family of the Pursifulls, which goes back to Mount Pursifull who settled at the mouth of Hances Creek in pioneer days and took up a large tract of land on both sides of Cumberland River at this place. Mount Pursifull was one of the most prominent businessmen of this early day. John Mat Pursifull, a descendant of Mount Pursifull, served as County Court Clerk from 1934 to 1938, and is now serving as County Judge, 1938-1942.
