Dyer CASTOR Examining Clerk State of Kentucky ____ this 20th day of August 1832 personally Hardin County before the county Court of Said county Henry RAINS a resident citizen of said County who being duly sworn according to VA doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the Benefits of the Provision made by the act of Congress of the 7th of June 1832 providing for sundry surviving officers and soldiers of the army of the Revolution says that he lived in Spotsylvania County Virginia in the year of the declaration of Independence. There he enlisted in the Army of the ____________ _ for the term of one year under Capt Alexr DICK and in Col WOODFORDS Regiment that he was commanded by Lieut Charles THOREU who was the Lt under Capt DICKS and he served as a marine and faithfully & lived out the period of his enlistment when he was honorably discharged and in about two months he again Enlisted under the same Capt DICK for the period of three years and served under the same officers as in the foregoing enlistment. that shortly after his Enlistment he was ordered on Board of the Ship Mosquitoe which served under the Command of Capt. John HARRISS and was shortly afterwards captured near the Island of Bermuda on the 10th of June 1776 by the British Ship of war Ariedne commanded by Capt DOUGH and was the only engagement in which deponent was. he was impressed the next day after the capture and remained there until 17th of January following when he was put on board a British ship as a Sailor and there kept in servitude until peace was proclaimed when he was liberated at the City of London. That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on the Pension roll of the United States or of any State. Date and place of birth of Henry RAINS and names of his parents are not shown. While a resident of Spotsylvania County, Virginia Henry RAINS enlisted "the year of the Declaration of Independence" and served one year in Captain Alexander Dick's company, Colonel WOODFORD's Virginia regiment; about two months later he enlisted for three years, served in Captain Alexander DICK's company, Colonel WOODFORD'S Virginia regiment, for a short time, then was ordered on board the ship "Mosquito" under command of Captain John HARRIS and shortly afterwards was captured near the Island of Bermuda on June 10, 1778 by the British ship of was "Ariodue" he was imprisoned the following day and remained there until the seventeenth of the following January, then he was put on board a British ship as a sailor and kept there until peace was proclaimed when he was liberated in London. The soldier was allowed pension on his application executed August 20, 1832, at which time he was residing in Elizabethtown Hardin County, Kentucky. His age is not shown. No family data are shown.
