He was a resident of Greenwood, Indiana. He was born November 25, 1938, in Rella, Kentucky. His father was Whitley Rice. His mother was Mary ( Wagner Rice) Messer of Arjay, KY. He married Rita Sanders on June 17, 1961. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Vic Rice of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, Shirley Elliott or Arjay, Kentucky; a grandson John I. Rice. Mr. Rice was employed for 30 years by Allison Transmission in Indianapolis as a truck driver, having retired in 1992. He was a member of House of Prayer Tabernacle in Indianapolis and U.A.W. Local 933. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Pastor Leon Baker conducted services at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Shelby Street Pentecostal Church, 8620 Shelby St, Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation was held from 4:00 pm on Tuesday at the church and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to House of Prayer Tabernacle, 5501 S. Linwood Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana. Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, State Road 135 Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
