On Saturday night a crowd of young people were returning from a party, and on Highway 60 near Irvington, they had a breakdown with their automobile. Young Richards was in this group and saw a taxi approaching. The taxi driven by Elvis Rush was from Cloverport, carrying several passengers, who were enroute from Louisville, after a day's shopping. The taxi driver was persuaded to take the young women of the party, including several girls in his car, and the two young men rode on the running board. One on each side of the car. The car full of young people had not gone far when side-swiped by an approaching car. Richards body was caught between the two cars, and he had almost instant death. The taxi was thrown from the road and turned over an embankment. Two of the girls were injured. The body of Richards was prepared for burial at the Dowell Funeral Home at Hardinsburg and taken to the home of his parents on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Richards was born in Hancock County on 31 August 1915, having reached the age of 20 years; He is survived by: His parents four sisters: Norene Richards Opal Richards Gladys Richards Helen Richards four brothers: Duward Richards William Richards Herbert Hoover Richards Lamar Richards The young man was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church having united there in September 1932. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at the New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. G. C. Sandusky, pastor of the Cloverport Baptist Church, officiating. The burial was held in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: His Uncles: Fred Richards, Claude Richards, Wayne Richards, and Bradley Richards His friends: Jess Walls and Franklin Potts Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Richards of this city (Cloverport) attended the funeral.
