From: KyArchives Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2017 7:53 PM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Robinson.Eddie.1961.Breckinridge.OBIT Eddie ROBINSON July 31, 1961 Breckinridge County KyArchives Obituaries Breckinridge County Herald-News, Friday, July 28, 1961 Page 1, OBITUARY EDDIE ROBINSON, AGE 14, DROWNS IN FARM POND Eddie ROBINSON of Irvington, Ky (Breckinridge County), was drowned Monday, July 31, 1961 on the VANLAHR farm, operated by Bill LUCAS. Eddie, with three other Irvington boys, Billy JONES, Jimmy KELLER, and Roger CRIST, were on a raft when it capsized leaving them in deep water. Billy saved Roger while Jimmy was able to take care of himself, but the two who could swim, were vain in efforts to rescue Eddie. Jackie Wayne CHAPPELL recovered the body from the pond, and was assisted by Daryl Alexander and Francis DOWNARD. The funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 2, 1961 from the Irvington Methodist Church, with the arrangements by the Alexander Funeral Home of Irvington. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Irvington. Surviving Eddie are: his parents, Mr and Mrs Morrow ROBINSON, Sr. three sisters: Sharon Faye ROBINSON Margaret Lynn ROBINSON Janet Carol ROBINSON one brother: Morrow ROBINSON, Jr. his grandparents: Mr & Mrs Coleman CARMAN of Locust Hill, Ky (Breckinridge County) Mr & Mrs Frank ROBINSON of Harned, Ky (Breckinridge County) Submitted by: Peggy Russell meemawpeg7@gmail.com Additional Comments: I did not find a tombstone for young Eddie in the Breckinridge County Cemeteries, volume one, published in 1991.
