George Dewey Roy, age 76, of Straight Creek, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 12, 1974, at the Pineville Community Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was born May 03, 1898, the son of the late George and Harriet Yeary Roy, of Lee County, Virginia. He was joined in holy matrimony in Pineville, Kentucky, on December 05, 1933 to Margaret Fulton. Dewey was a Bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy and preached over 52 years. He was a retired member of the Brotherhood of L&N Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Fulton Roy, Straight Creek; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie (Earl) Hubbard of Straight Creek; four brothers, Andy Roy of Ewing, Virginia, Ted Roy of Gibson Station, Virginia, Joe Roy or Pathfork, Kentucky and Jim Roy of Harrogate, Tennessee; three grandchildren; four great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Durham Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, August 15, 1974 at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Thea O. Carter, the Rev. Allen Lord, and a representative from the Church of God of Prophecy from Cleveland, Tennessee officiating. Burial will be at the Pineville Memorial Cemetery in Pineville. The family is receiving friends at the Durham Funeral Home Chapel until the funeral hour. Durham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rissie was the mother of Dewey's daughter, Marjorie Roy Hubbard. Rissie Akers Roy was born 22 September 1896, in Tennessee, the daughter of David Stewart and Rachel Emma Marcum Akers. Rissie married Dewey 20 May 1920 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. She died 01 June 1933 at their home at Straight Creek in Bell County, Kentucky, and is buried at Liberty Cemetery at Straight Creek.
