Mrs. Mary Etta Ryan, 76, a resident of the Strunk community, died Wednesday, 
January 20, in the Scott County Nursing Home, Oneida, Tenn. She had been ill 
for several months. Her husband, Joe Ryan, survives. The deceased was born 
April 30, 1894, at Strunk, the daughter of the late Bob Carter and Phoebe 
Wilson Carter. She was a housewife and mother and a member of the Silerville 
Baptist Church.  Surviving besides her husband, are six daughters, Mrs. Mae 
Ball, Mrs. Mabel McDonald and Mrs. Lois Troxell, Revelo; Mrs. Dessie Strunk, 
Winfield, Tenn.; Mrs. Ruth Smith, Danville, Ky,; Mrs. Edwina Black, Tucson, 
Ariz.; two sons, George Cooper, Tucson, Ariz., and Joe Ryan, Jr., Sidney, 
Ohio; a brother, Ben Carter, Evarts, Ky.; and a sister, Mrs. Audie Duncan, 
Chicago, Ill.  Funeral services were held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the 
Silerville Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Byrd and Rev. Albert Chitwood 
officiating. Burial was in the Jones Cemetery with Hickman Funeral Home in 
charge.
