What’s next? At this point, my Grandfather William “Willie” Sauer, son of Fred and Barbara Wagner Sauer of Newport, Kentucky, meets my Grandmother Elizabeth Berkemeyer b:1880,daughter of Casper and Maria Elizabeth Ronnebaum Berkemeyer of 161 E. Bush,Covington, Kentucky. William’s first job was working as a machinist for a Carriage Company in Newport. Elizabeth worked as a candy maker for a Candy Shop in Covington. Maybe they met at the Candy Shop? On 23 Sept 1903 William and Elizabeth married in Dayton, Campbell Co. Kentucky. After their marriage William and Elizabeth moved into a new house at 109 5th Street, in Dayton, they lived in this house the remainder of their lives. William how worked as a Watchmaker for Wadsworth Watch Case Company in Dayton. Elizabeth was a mother and housewife. William walked to work each day he never drove or owned an automobile. As I remember my Grandfather’s favorite TV show was “Friday Night Fights”. His favorite snack was beer and stick pretzel sticks in a small flat box. He always gave me a couple of pennies for watching the fights with him. I thought I was rich! Elizabeth died 3 Jun 1952 at home in Dayton. William died on 23 Jul 1956 as the result of a stroke. The stroke occurred that morning while he ran after a bakery truck to purchase a pastry for breakfast. CHILDREN: 1. Irene Sauer b: 1905 d: about 1985. Irene married Joseph Meyers about 1920.Joseph’s family were also German immigrates settling in Northern Kentucky. Irene and Joseph owned a Standard Oil Gas Station in Cincinnati, Ohio. They had two living children. 2. William Sauer Jr., my father, b: 26 Feb 1907 in Dayton, d: Feb 1978 in Phoenix, AZ. William married Margaret Lou Greenlee, of Cincinnati on 3 Feb 1933. During WW II he served as a Radar Man for the US Navy in the South Pacific. He worked as an account for The Kentucky Post and Time Star, located in Covington, Kentucky, for 49 years retiring in 1972. Margaret was a Housewife until 1954 when she became a schoolteacher in Hebron, Boone Co., Kentucky. Margaret retired from teaching in 1972. She died in 1973. They first lived in Dayton, Kentucky moving to Elsmere, Kenton Co., Kentucky in 1949. They had two living children. 3. Roy Sauer b: 1916 d: 1940 he married but had no children.
