Scrivener.Lisa.1896.Barren.OBIT Barren County KyArchives Obituaries.....Lisa Scrivener April 2 1896 Submitted by: Sandi Gorin http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00002.html#0000404 Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 8 Apr 1896 "Aunt Lisa Scrivener Dead. Died, at the residence of her husband, George Scrivener, one and a half miles southwest of Glasgow,on the morning of April 2, 1896, Eliza Scrivener, age 76 years. On the afternoon of the 4th, after appropriate funeral services, and in the presence of a large concourse of her sorrowing relatives and friends, she was buried in the family graveyard at her home. A husband and six children survive her. For a great many years she was an exemplary member of Dover Baptist Church (white), until, about twenty-six years ago, she and her husband were granted letters of membership from that church to the First Colored Baptist Church of Glasgow, where she retained membership until her death, and died in the religious faith she had so long and zealously lived in. "Aunt Liza," as she was familiarly known, was born the property of Alexander Davidson, a Baptist minister and pioneer settler in now South Fork community when this county was yet a part of Warren county, and who was a Delegate to the first Constitutional Convention of the State of Kentucky, and who was the great- grandfather of B. G. Davidson of this place. She was the daughter of "Uncle Hark," whom all the old-time people here will remember as the "cake baker" of long ago. After the death of her first mistress, she was sold, and James W. Scrivener, the owner of her husband bought her, and she remained his faithful and devoted servant until she was liberated by proclamation. Since that time, by their united industry and economy as market gardeners, she and her husband have secured and built a comfortable home, where they lived and enjoyed the respect and confidence alike of whites and blacks wherever known. "Peace to her ashes, and green be her memory" "The poor tributre of one who had known her for about sixty years. S." Unable to locate.
