To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Shirley.Al.1896.Barren.OBIT Al Shirley September 29 1896 Barren County KyArchives Obituaries Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 21 Oct 1896 "Mr. Al Shirley Dead. Mr. A. H. Shirley died at his residence, in the edge of town, yesterday evening at 3 o'clock. While his passing was sudden, it was not unexpected, as he had been in ill health for some time, and all hope of his ultimate recovery had been abandoned by both his friends and physicians. "There was no cleverer man than Al Shirley. Generous, open as the day, a strong sincere and truenature, he made friends and kept them. The news of his death will be heard with regret by all who knew him, and more especially by a multitude of friends here and elsewhere. "Mr. Shirley was for many years of his life engaged in the hotel business, and was at different times proprietor of popular hostelries in Louisville, Richmond, Ky., and here. He was widely known all over the State. Of late years, he had been in wretched health, and was not engaged in business at the time of his death. "Funeral services will take place at the residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon, immediately after which the remains will be interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery."
