B. Shortridge Dies In Ashland Van Buren Shortridge, so, for many years a prominent farmer and livestock dealer of Glenwood, this county, died last Saturday morning at his home in Ashland. The body was returned to this county and funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at the Trinity church on East Fork with the Rev. O. P. Smith, of Ashland, officiating. Mr. Shortridge was born in Pike county November 28, 1858, the eldest son of George and Margaret Harmon Shortridge, early settlers from Virginia. He came to Lawrence county in 1879 and for many years operated the Glenwood Stock Farm at Glenwood. He moved to Jackson county, Ohio a few years ago, but returned to Ashland about a year ago. He married Samantha Webb, who died several years ago. To them were born five children. Mrs. Nora Neal and Mrs. Mae Miller, both deceased, Mrs. Vanna Womack, Portsmouth, Ohio; Roscoe Shortridge, Glenwood, Ky., and Mrs. Ida Riffe, Cadmus, Ky. He then married Georgia Coburn, who died three years ago. To them were born three children. Russell Shortridge, Ashland; Mrs. Margarite Gallagher, Portsmouth and Miss Faye Shortridge at home. Other relatives surviving are one sister, Mrs. Janette Barrett, Ashland; four brothers, W. N. Shortridge, Catlettsburg; Bascom Shortridge, Yatesville, Ky, and Mart and Jay Shortridge, Ashland; 19 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren.
