He was born on January 22, 1907 at Beverly, KY the son of the late James and Sarah Taylor Slusher. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and was an active member of his community. Mason was a retired school Principal, served four years as a Kentucky State Representative and served as a bookkeeper for Round Mountain Coal Co. He was very active in politics all of his life. He was also active in the Coal business and had a grocery store at Beverly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Lawson Slusher, sons Mason Slusher, Jr. and Silas “Punkin” Slusher, son-in-law, Rev. Doyle Taylor and a host of brothers, sisters and other relatives. Survivors include his children Dr. Eugene and Mellana Slusher of Lexington, KY, Opal L. and Roy Sims of Southern Pines, NC, Della Taylor of Hulen and Lucy and Donnie Arnett of Pineville; daughters-in-law, Freda and Margie Slusher both of Beverly; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a host of special nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Thea O. Carter, Rev. David Howard and Rev. George Neal. Music will be by Jimmy Jackson, Dickie Siler and Jimmy Haley. Burial will be in the Slusher Family Cemetery at Beverly. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Farmer Helton, Jim Bowling, Mike Bowling, Robert Costanzo, Bruce Bennett, Charles (Monk) Green, Paul Shephard, Dr. T.B. Hays, Dr. Steve Morgan, Rev. Shelby Money, Rev. W.B. Bingham, Rev. Robey Walters, John Golden, Elder Kenneth Robbins and Bobby Sizemore and all his very special friends that he has worked with to help improve the lives of his neighbors and friends of the mountains. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. The Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, was honored to serve the Slusher Family.
