Elizabethtown News-Enterprise, 9 April 1986
James “Press” Smallwood, 74, of Eastview died Monday at his home.

A native of Hardin County, he was a farmer, a highway construction worker, and 
a member of Needham Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lectie Givan; two sons, Thomas Smallwood 
of Elizabethtown and Roger Dale Smallwood of Eastview; two daughters, Hazel 
Marie Helm and Phyllis Faye Coogle, both of Eastview; one brother, Hezzie 
Smallwood of Cecilia; three sisters, Mattie Lyons of Big Clifty, Ida Sharp of 
Cecilia, and Lula Sadler of Eastview; eight grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Needham Cumberalnd Presbyterian Church.  
The Revs. Elbert Cundiff and James Johnson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Smith Chapel Cemetery near Eastview.

Visitation is at the Smallwood residence.  Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown 
is in charge of the arrangements.
