From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 27 Apr 2003 WAYNESBURG -- Joda "Bert" Smallwood Jr., 72, of Waynesburg, died today at his home. Born May 23, 1930, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Joda and Mabel Moore Smallwood. He was a retired employee of Norfolk Southern Corp., where he worked for 35 years, and attended Parlor Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Calhoun Smallwood; two sons, William J. "Billy: Smallwood of Berea and David A. Smallwood of Indiana; two daughters, Angela J. Scott of Manteca , Calif., and Debbie Demrow of Waynesburg; three sisters, Carrie "Sis" Howard of Somerset, Jean Johnson of London and Bonnie Smallwood of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Mullins. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery. Mike Mullins. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery. He died Saturday at his home. Active pallbearers will be Bob Leggier, Jim Edster, Billy and Adam Smallwood, Bill and Kurt Demrow, and Tom and Cleo Slone. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Hurt, Julian Gander, Keith Lemon, Bill and Mark Tucker, Raymond Schuler, Jerry Works and Andrew Works. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today. ______________________________
