Submitted by Sandi Gorin NOTE: I have no connection, no further information and am not seeking additional information. "Geosrge W. Smith Dies Sunday. Funeral Services To Be Conducted At Pleasant Hill Church Tomorrow Afternoon. "George W. Smith, well-known farmer of the Peters Creek vicinity, died at his home yesterday morning at 6:30 o'clock following a stroke which he suffered the previous afternoon. "He is survived by his wife, Mrs Ella Smith, five daughters, Mrs. Eva Richey of South Bend, Indiana, Mrs. Gladys Houchens of Detroit, Mrs Connie Lee Brooks of Detroit, Mrs. Paulien Elliott of Glasgow, Mrs. Frankie Bailey of Roseville; and one son, Bully George Smith, of the Peters Creek community. Several brothers and sisters also survive. "Mr. Smith was well-known throughout the county and leaves a host of devoted friends who deeply regret his passing. For a great many years he has taken a leading part in the civic and religious affairs of the community. He was a very active member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. His intense interest in the services won for him the name of "Singing George Smith," by which he was always affectionally referred to by his friends. "In spite of Mr. Smith's advanced age he was active until the day before his death. Saturday afternoon he had gone to get a load of wood from a far section of his farm. When he failed to return, members of the family went in search of him. They found him on the ground near his wagon in an unconscious condition and had evidently suffered a stroke of some kind. He was taken to his house, where an effort was made to revive him, but he never regained consciousness and passed away early yesterday morning. "Funeral services are to be conducted at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church tomorrow afternoon at on o'clock and interment will follow in the family graveyard on the Smith place. Rev. C. E. Carter and Rev. W. J. Dorsey will be in charge of the service." Unable to locate. From unknown Glasgow KY newspaper, found in files of the late Eva Coe Peden. ______________________________
