                          VIRGIL SMITH
     Virgil Smith, 74, of Pomeroyton and formerly of Red Creek, died at 
7:40 p.m. Monday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
     Born Feb. 4, 1912 in Pike County, he was a son of the late Chris and
Carolyn Stone Smith. He was a retired miner.
     He is survived by four sons, Danny Smith and Bobby Huffman, both of
Marine City, Mich., Damon and Virgil Smith, both of Pikeville; a brother, 
Jack Smith of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Justice Funeral
Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Huffman Cemetery at Red Creek.
     Arrangements are under the direction of the Justice Funeral Home of
Pikeville.
