Alva Nelson Starkey Jr. 69, Morganfield, died May 13th at his residence. Mr. Starkey was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganfield and a member of American Legion, Griggs-Alvey Post in Morganfield. He was a veteran of Korean War and a past commander of VFW Post 5486 in Sullivan. He was worked at Robertson-Quinn Motors of Sturgis for 19 years and P&M Coal Co and Island Creek Coal Co for 20 years. Mr. Starkey was born in Harrisburg, IL in 1929 to the late Alva N. Starkey and Harriet (Stewart) Starkey. He is preceded in death by one brother, Roy Starkey and his parents, Alva & Harriet Starkey. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Starkey of Morganfield, one daughter, Sherry Freer of Pride; five sons, Mark Starkey of Sturgis; Paul Starkey of Morganfield; John Starkey of Columbus, MS, Matthew Starkey of Sturgis and David Starkey of Morganfield.; two sisters, Susie Williams of Sturgis; Edna Birkner of Gadsden, AL; seven step children; Roger Lalik of Henderson, Charlie Wright, Kenny Wright, Harry Wright, Diane Carrier, Gary Wright, Patsy Wright; two great grandchildren; one special granddaughter "Little Sarah"; one step grandson, Andy Peoples.
