The shooting occurred about 8 o’clock Monday night at his home on Route 3, Hodgenville. He was a bricklayer and was a U.S. Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Martha Gentry Stephens; 1 daughter, Mrs. Carrie Engle, of Route 3; 2 sons, Randy and Jeff Stephens, also of Route 3; and 1 grandchild. Also surviving are 4 brothers, Edward and Jospeh Stephens, both of South Carolina; James Stephens, of Texas; and Herbie Stephens of Howardstown; 6 sisters, Mrs. Annie Tuttle, Mrs. Cleo Myrtle Reed, Mrs. Mary Catherine Kite, Mrs. Hazle Virginia Westbury, Mrs. Margaret Rose and Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Brooks, all of South Carolina. The body was brought to Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home here where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today [Thursday]. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at White City.
