Edward Adair Stum, 34, son of F P Stum, 538 East Broadway, died early this morning of acute Bright's disease in Los Angeles, Calif., according to a telegram received by his father. Beyond the fact that his son would be brought to Madisonville for burial, Mr Stum could announce no arrangements for the funeral, pending arrival tomorrow of his daughter, Mrs Warren Thorpe, of Macon, Ga. Adair Stum left Madisonville several years ago, going to St. Louis, where he engaged in business for a time. Later he went to Los Angeles, where he has been about four years. He became critically ill yesterday, and his father was planning to leave last night to fly to his bedside, but later in the day, a sister, Mrs James Kennett, Louisville, advised her father she had received a message saying her brother could not live many hours. In addition to his father and sisters, Adair Stum is survived by his widow, Mrs Louise Stum and his mother, Mrs Emma Stum. The Messenger, Madisonville, Ky , May 31, 1935 STUM FUNERAL HERE SUNDAY Funeral service for Edward Adair Stum, who died early Wednesday in St. Vincent's Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif., of uremia after being ill of acute nephritis one week, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of his father, F P Stum, 538 East Broadway. The body will arrive at the L & N station Saturday afternoon at 3:17 o'clock and will be taken to Barnett Funeral Home to lie until one o'clock the following afternoon, when it will be taken to the Stum home. Brief funeral service was held in Los Angeles before the body was started to Madisonville inasmuch as Mrs. Stum, herself ill, was advised against making the long trip. The service here will be conducted by Dr. W C Frank, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which Mr. Stum was a member,who will be assisted by Rev. H S Summers, pastor of the First Baptish church. Morton McPherson will sing "Never Grow Old" and "Abide With Me." Mrs E P Claytor [Clayton?] will be accompanist. Pallbearers will be: Maurice Salmon, Jack Holt, Hilliard Jackson of Louisville, William Edward Moore, Beverly Waddill and A S Johnston. Flowerbearers will be: Mrs Jack Holt, Mrs A S Johnston, Mrs Elby Masoncup, Mrs J K Ramsey, Mrs E G Brownfield, Mrs L G Hayes, Mrs George Work, Miss Emma Alice Pate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery. Adair Stum was born in Sacramento on August 22, 1901. He received his early education in the Madisonville schools, and attended Battle Ground Academy, Franklin, Tenn., in 1919-20. The following three years he attended Castle Heights in Lebanon, Tenn. Returning to Madisonville, he entered the Farmers National Bank, of which his father was president. After a few years, he established the City Feed Store, which he operated successfully until he went to St. Louis, several years later, to become associated with the Washburn-Crosby Milling Co. Early in 1931, Washburn-Crosby transferred Mr. Stum to the Los Angeles division, and in August of that year he married Miss Louise Creasey, whom he had met in St Louis. Besides his widow and his parents, Mr Stum is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Warren Thorpe, Macon, Ga; and Mrs James Kennett, Louisville; and by one niece and one nephew, Katherine Stum Thorpe and James E Kennett, Jr., all of whom have arrived in Madisonville. BODY TO ARRIVE TONIGHT OR SUNDAY The body of Edward Adair Stum, 34, who died in Los Angeles, Claif., Wednesday will not arrive until tonight or Sunday morning because of train connections.
