Witnesseth that the said John Thurman for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds current money to him the said Thurman in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain, sell alien and confirm unto the said Thomas Thurmon his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land _______ lying and being in the county aforesaid on the south side of Cumberland opposite the town of Burkesville and bounded as follows towit: Beginning at a maple and chestnut oak in the cliff of Cumberland river running thence south 40 degrees east 71 poles to a white oak thence south 70 degrees east 117 poles to a beech hence north 55 degrees east 57 poles to a beech and sugar tree thence north 25 degrees west 63 poles to a sugar tree and dogwood thence north 7 degrees west 79 poles to a beech thence north 15 degrees east 160 poles to two sugar trees north 20 degrees west 204 poles to a white walnut and beech thence north 67 degrees west 20 poles to the beeches thence north 15 degrees east 70 poles to an ash and cedar thence north 125 poles to a sugar tree and two beeches thence west 154 poles to a hickory and elm thence north 50 degrees west 100 poles to two cedars on the cliff of Cumberland River thence running down the same with the meanders thereof to the beginning containing three thousand acres be the same more or less also one acre of ground lying on the north side of Cumberland River laid off and now occupied as a ferry landing. To have and to hold the heretofore mentioned land with all and singular the promises and every part or parcel thereof with every of the appurtenances unto the said Thomas Thurmon his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Thurmon all and singular the promise hereby bargained and sold with the appurtenances unto the said Thomas T hurmon his heirs and assigns against him the said John Thurman and his heirs and all claiming under through or by them doth and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said John T hurman hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. John R I T Thurmon (seal) Know all men by these presents that I the within named Thomas Thurmon grantee do hereby certify and acknowledge that the within mentioned tract of land with all and singular the improvements and here _________ there unto belonging or in any wise appertaining I receive from the within named John Thurmon as a donation and that the said John or his heirs is not to be in any manner whatever accountable or responsible for any consideration whatever of the same or any part of the said land or premises. King the clerk of the court of the county aforesaid do hereby certify that the within named John T hurmon a party to the within deed of bargain and sale from himself to Thomas T hurmon came personally before me in my said office on the 15th day of this instant, January, and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and I further certify that Thomas Thurmon the grantee same personally before me in my office in the said 15th day of January and acknowledged the attached certificate to be his act and deed.
