The memorial service, held at the Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon in memory of the late Mr. R. T. Thurman, was laragely attended by all denominations, the main auditorium and the Sunday School room being crowded. Mr. Thurman was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and for this reason, the service was held with that denomination. Rev. Shelly opened the service, and worthy tributes, commending the dead officer for his deeds of valor and bravery, and his gentlemanly traits and principles were made by Rev. I. D. S. Knight, Mr. J. C. Hutcherson, Mr. Howe Ralston, Mayor Leech, Mr. W. H. Jones and Mr. J. A. Murray. "Mr. Murray made the motion that a monument be ereced over Mr. Thurman's grave in Clinton County and this motion was carried by a unanimous vote. "A committee of three men was appointed to institute the plans for the erection of the monument and the committee is to be assisted by five ladies, one from each church. "Mr. W. H. Jones introduced the following resolutions: "Resolutions adopted in Memorial Meeting, Glasgow, Ky. Oct. 11th, 1914: "Whereas on Friday Night, September 18th, 1914, Mr. R. T. Thurman, a policeman of this city, was murdered while in the discharge of his duties, therefore we, the citizens of Glasgow, in mass meeting assembled, representing all the white churches of town, do adopt the following resolutions: "First: That in the death of Mr. Thurman, Glasgow lost an official who was courageous, industrious, vigilant and faithful in the discharge of his official duties. "Second: That we deeply deplore his tragic death, and offer to his relatives and associates our heart-felt sympathy, and condolence in their hour of bereavement. "Third: That we condemn in unmeasured terms lawlessness in any and every form, and while we do not believe Glasgow is worse than other towns of its size, we do call upon all good citizens of the county to join us and stand together, courageously in support of our officers in their efforts to maintain order and preserve the dignity of the law. "Fourth: That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of Mr. Thurman and that the local papers be requested to publish the same." Glasgow Weekly Times, unknown date.
