Born Feb. 19, 1909, in Princeton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Milton W. and Ozella R. McKenzie Christie. She was the widow of Dr. Lawrence O. Toomey. She was an art professor and founder of the art department at Western Kentucky University and earned her master's and bachelor's degrees at Columbia University. She was a member of First Christian Church in Bowling Green, Tri County Medical Auxiliary, and the women's auxiliary of the Kentucky Medical Association board. She was a member of Alpha Pi Chapter, Kappa Delta Pi art honorary society. She also was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Larth Literary Club and 20th Century Literary Club. She also was member of Landmark Association, working to preserve the Capital Arts Center and Hobson House in Bowling Green. She was a certified judge with the Kentucky Garden Club. Survivors include nieces and nephews, including great-niece, Betty Lykins of Danville. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Bowling Green. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Bowling Green at Johnson-Vaughn Funeral Home. Memorials may go to First Christian Church building fund, 1106 State St., Bowling Green 42103; or Heritage Hospice. Honorary pallbearers are John Grider, Jerry Parker, Dero Downing, Buddy Cate and nephews. Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in Bowling Green at Johnson-Vaughn Funeral Home.
