"A TRIBUTE TO MRS. MARTHA McCOY TRAVIS. The sad death of our departed fdriend occurred at the Maplewood Infirmary April 4th, after an illness of flu and pneumonia. She bore her suffering with patience. So sweet and kind to all. "She was buried in the Refuge Cemetery. Bro. Reno conducting the funeral services. The nice floral offering was a token of her many friends. "Mrs. Travis was 37 years, 11 months, and 15 days old. She made of profession of religion in a revival held at Lick Branch in the year 1904, joined the church of that place and was baptized. That she remained true to this profession is proved by her daily walk in life, and by her sweet patience during her last hours of suffering. We are made to wonder why she was called home so soon, when her precious little children needed her loving care so much. But we cannot question the divine wisdom of God. Perhaps it is to lead the way for loving companion and children to follow on after her. So we would say to the bereaved companion and children to think of her as a "Guiding Star," or a "Beacon Light", pointing the way for you to follow in the path she has trod, and you will meet that sweet mother and loving companion around the great white throne of God. We wish to add further that you have our tenderest sympathy. While we have never lost a companion we lost our mother in early yout! h. We know it is sad, but can only breathe a silent prayer to the one who has promised to take the place of loved ones. To throw the loving arm of protection around us. Signed: Her Girlhood Friend."
