To: KYF Subject: Turpin.9-children.1947.Casey.NEWS All Turpin Children Have New Homes August 7 1947 Casey County KyArchives News THE CASEY COUNTY NEWS,1947 All nine of the chidren of Amos Turpin of Rough Ridge are now placed in new homes. The new homes of the children are listed below; Louie, 22 months, lives with Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Staley, 507 E. 7th Street, Lexington Ky. Mr. Staley is a retired soldier and works as a night watchman. The Staleys' have a grown daughter that was also adopted as a child. Loretta, nearly 4, lives with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hurt of Lancaster. Mr. Hurt is an auto mechanic; they own their own home, have been married 17 years and have no children. Bertha, aged 5, lives with Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Williams, 2157 Tyler Lane, Louisville. They have no children, own their home and are middle aged. Frankie, age 9, lives in the house with Loretta at Lancaster. His foster parents are Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Speaks who have a son of their own aged 7. Mr. Speaks owns two trucks and makes trucking his business. Chester,10, lives with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Young who own a 90 acre farm at Cornishville, Mercer County, and have a 13 year old boy of their own. Arvil, 11, lives with Mr. and Mr. Wm Mcginnis, Cornishville, Mercer county, who have no children and rent a 420 acre farm; Arvil and Chester live a quarter mile apart. Ollie, 12 and James, 15, are with Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Abell, Crestwood (near Louisville), who came after the boys on Friday of last week. Earl, 17, went to an undisclosed place in Indiana with his mother. His arm which was first reported healed incorrectly is now considered healing well enough. Amos Turpin, the father, was tried on charges of contributing to the deinquency of juveniles in county court Wednesday of last week. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced 30 days in jail and $100 fine. Irene Turpin, the mother, was in Liberty last Wednesday night and Thursday morning. She competely outfitted the three older boys with donated money and some of her own and returned to her work in some part of Indiana. Her correct address is known only to certain county officials.
