Waddle August 4, 1844 - Hart County KyArchives Biography Author: Kentucky Genealogy and Biography, Volume V, Battle-Perrin-Kniffin, 4th ed., 1886 DR. GEORGE W. WADDLE was born in Hart County, Ky., August 4, 1844, and is the second child in a family of nine children born to John B. and Martha (Reynolds) Waddle, the former a native of the Old Dominion and the latter of Shawneetown, Ill. Both were of English descent. John B. Waddle was born in 1823, and about 1827 was brought by his parents to Hart County, Ky., where he grew to manhood and was married, receiving such an education in youth as the primitive common schools of Kentucky afforded at that time. In early life he learned the cabinet-maker's trade, which, with farming, has been his chief occupation. For some six or seven years he was deputy sheriff of Hart County, and for the past eight years has served as magistrate, or justice of the peace, of Munfordville District, where he now resides. He belongs to no church or secret order. Mrs. Martha J. Waddle departed this life in the fall of 1854. She was a life-long and devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. George W. Waddle received a good common-school and academic education in youth. At the age of twelve or thirteen years he was employed as a salesman in a drug store in Munfordville, where he remained until the fall of 1861, when he enlisted in Company I, Second Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (Federal service). He was soon after detailed as assistant hospital steward and served till the fall of 1863 when he was discharged on account of disability. Notwithstanding he was serving in the medical department, he yet participated in the battles of Shiloh and Corinth, being severely wounded in the left arm in the latter engagement. In the spring of 1864 he re-enlisted in the THIRTIETH Kentucky State Guards, who were afterward mustered into the United States service in order to draw their pay. With this regiment he remained until the close of the war, when he came to Campbellsville, Taylor Co., Ky., where he has since been engaged in the practice of medicine. The Doctor was married March 15, 1865, to Miss Martha J. Willock, a native of Taylor County, born November 10, 1845. She is a daughter of David and Phebe T (Burge) Willock. Six children have blessed their union, viz.: Hattie Lee, Sneed T., William P., David E., Mary E. and George W., Jr. Mrs. Waddle is, and has been from early life, a devoted and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Doctor belongs to no church or secret order. In politics he is a Republican and is one of the successful physicians of the county.
