J.R. WATLINGTON [1966 is written in] 
Russellville -- John Russell Watlington, 62, a native of Hardinsburg and 
retired Logan County Agent, died at his home here Sept. 2, apparently of a 
heart attack. 
He retired in 1958 after serving as county agent for 23 years.  He had farmed 
since then.  He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and of the 
Methodist Temple. 
The son of the late Nathaniel and Eliza Durham Watlington, he was graduated 
from the University of Kentucky in 1926.  He worked for the Ralston Purina 
Company and the Federal Land Bank. 
In 1930 he went to Bowling Green as assistant farm agent of Warren County, and 
in 1933 he moved to Russellville as assistant Logan agent.  He was promoted to 
County agent two years later. 
The funeral was conducted at Maple Grove Cemetery at 4 p.m. Sept. 4, with the 
Rev. Edward Coffman officiating.  Richardson Funeral Home was in charge. 
Surviving are his wife, the former Claudine Peggs of Maysville; two daughters, 
Miss Patricia Watlington of New Haven, Conn., and Mrs. O.L. May II of 
Brandenburg; a son, James R. Watlington of Bowling Green; a brother, Philip 
Watlington of Paris; three sisters, Mrs. T.I. Glasscock and Miss Bess 
Watlington of Hardinsburg, and Mrs. W.A. Simmons of Irvington; and three 
grandchildren. 
Pallbearers were Charles Gleeson, A.B. Worley, Leslie Engler, Robert Scott 
Evans, George Everitt and J.W. Murrey.

The parents of John Russell Watlington, Nathaniel Hugh Watlington and Eliza Ann 
Durham, married on 28 February 1888 at the residence of Philip Durham in 
Breckinridge County, Kentucky.  Nathaniel Hugh Watlington was the son of 
Nathaniel Reed Watlington and Judith Tolliver Cox.
