Wells September 2, 1916 Barren County KyArchives Obituaries The Republican [Glasgow, KY], Thursday, 9 Sept 1915, p. 2. "B. K. WELLS. One of God's Noblemen Passes Over. In the death of Esq. B. K. Wells, which occurred at his home on Fallen Timber Thursday, Barren county lost one of her very best citizens. Mr.Wells was the last of his generation to pass away. He lacked until the 27th of the present month of being seventy-nine years of age. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Annie Snoddy, a sister of Mressrs. Geo and Ed Snoddy, of this place, and one son, Mr. Joe S.Wells who lived with his parents." Mr. Wells was a most devout christian and had been a deacon at old Poplar Log for a generation. His place cannot be filled, as there is not another like him. It is said by his most intimate friends that they never heard him speak an unkind word of a living person, nor did they ever hear him speak across word to even a dumb brute. He was most generous, hospitable and one of the kindest men living. It was a common remark at his burial, that "If Uncle Bird hasn't [sic] gone to the good place, it isn't worth while for anyone else to try." Speaking from a close personal intimacy for many years, we do not believe a better man can be found. Mr. Wells was a "49'r" having been one who crossed the plains and mountains to California in 1849, and got his start working gold mines, when he had enough of that he returned to Barren, where he has since made one of the best citizens the county ever contained. He wasa man of considerable wealth, having been active and successful in business. The interment was in the Glasgow cemetery Saturday after funeral services conducted by Rev. W. K. Clements, minister of the christian church, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends." Buried Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, 27 Sept 1836 - 02 Sept 1916.
