From: KyArchives [Archives@genrecords.org] Sent: Friday, December 10, 2004 7:21 AM To: Ky-Footsteps Subject: Whitehead.Bennie.1953.Mccreary-Wayne.OBIT Bennie Whitehead August 1 1953 Mccreary-Wayne County KyArchives Obituaries McCreary County Record, McCreary County, Kentucky Tuesday, August 11, 1953, McCreary County Record: Bennie Whitehead, 80, retired farmer and former McCreary County Magistrate, died August 1, 1953, at his home in Ritner following an illness of several months./ The son of Benjamin and Mary Polly Huff Whitehead, he was born in the Ritner community, at the time Wayne County, June 15, 1873, and lived in that community his entire life. He became a member of the Freedom Baptist Church 54 years ago and lived a faithful Christian life unto the end./ In 1899 he married Linda Mason, who survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Mathews, Ritner, and Mrs. Pearlie Phillips, Cincinnati; four sons, Cornelius, Ritner; Leamon and Oscar, Cincinnati and Luther, Whitley City; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing, who feel their loss is his eternal gain./ Funeral services were held Aug. 2nd, with Rev. Theo Branscum and the Rev. Levi Cox officiating. Burial was in the Clark Cemetery in Wayne County./ Pallbearers were Theo Branscum, Willard Tucker, Gilson Jones and Gilbert Phillips. Flower girls were his granddaughters.
