Born Sunday, Nov. 21, 1909, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late William Wood and Ethel Isaacs Whitehouse. Miss Whitehouse was retired from the Ohio State Teacher's Association having taught school for more than 40 years. She received her teaching degree from Eastern State Teachers College in Richmond, Ky., a master's from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., and completed many extended educational classes at Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She taught at Perryville, Ky., for a short time, then continued her professional career in the Portsmouth and Cleveland, Ohio, school districts. Miss Whitehouse's life was centered around education, either by helping others or expanding her own. She loved her family, traveling and working in her yard. She also enjoyed attending plays, classical music and reading. Her love and thoughtful ways will be missed by those who knew her. She is survived by a niece and caregiver, Mary Lou Lannum of Lexington; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William W. Whitehouse Jr.; a nephew, W.D. Whitehouse; and aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Preston- Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service. Pallbearers will be King Pruitt, Joe Martin, Ernest Gooch, Stuart Powell, Doug Isaacs and Bill Isaacs. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Heritage Hospice. The family wishes to thank her many devoted caregivers and Ernest and Thelma Gooch.
