He was born September 18, 1759, in Albemarle County, Virginia. He enlisted in Amherst County, Virginia, and served in Virginia troops in the years 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779, 1780, 1781, under Captains Richard Ballenger, John Jacobs, John Biggs and William Harris, and Colonels Hugh Row, Francis Tadlor and John Pope. He was at the Siege of Yorktown and at the Surrender of Cornwallis. He married July 17, 1781, Phebe Dodd. Note: He died December 16, 1835, in Estill County, Kentucky. His children were William, Annie, Charles, Abner, Elisha, Nathan, Rachel, David, John and Silas.
