Former long-time resident of Glasgow
Born: Metcalfe Co KY
Daughter of the late Lesley and Harriet Twyman Baird
Widow of Luther B Yates. They were married 65 years prior to his death in 
1990. Retired employee of New Farmers Bank in Glasgow. Active member of the 
Glasgow Senior Citizens.Attended Metcalfe County schools and was a childhood 
member of the Old Blue Spring Baptist Church. Layter joined the First Baptist 
Church in Glasgow and was the church's oldest living member at her death. 
Member of the Usher Board, Missionary Society, Gleaners and Sunday School 
Board. Since moving to Indianapolis, she had affliated with the First Baptist 
Church North of Indianapolis under Watchcare.
Survivors:
Daughters: Arlene Murrell and husband Huelen of Louisville KY and Mary Woods 
Fitts and husband Neal of Indianapolis
Son: Napoleon B Yates and wife Ursula of Ramstein, Germany
Grandchildren: Wallace Lambirth and wife Carolyn, Carnice Gorin and husband 
Michael, Jennifer Cooper, David S Hudson and wife Adriane and Michael Yates
Ten great-grandchildren
Preceded also in death:
Son: Howard Yates
Grandson: Carroll
Services Thursday, 14 Aug 2003, 6:30pm, her church in Indianapolis and 
Saturday, 16 Aug at 1 pm at First Baptist Church in Glasgow. No burial site 
shown.
