Unknown exact date or place. One possibility is "Bluegrass
Country" KY 1 , 15
1870 census says b. Boone Co. KY. Other researchers
indicate NC or SC

daughter of Daniel and Lucinda Jane Toulmin GARRARD. 3
1825 KY, State Senator Daniel Garrard, of Knox, Harlan,
Clay, Perry and Whitley Counties, introduced a bill entitled “An act to
establish the county of Laurel>” Apparently the creation of this county was a
political hot spot and secrecy surrounded its passage. It was passed and one of
its first appointed commissioners was Daniel’s new son-in-law, Gabriel W. Price.
7
1826 KY, Laurel Co. “Birth” of Laurel Co. Appointed to

researcher gives undocumented birth date as Dec. 1825.
[A James Price m. Sally Jackson in 1850. In 1853 a court
record shows Sally Price vs. James Price. Speculation that it is this James
Price – his marriage and divorce.]

Murdered. Died 4 Mar 1850 [unmarried]
[Could these boys be twins? If so, a discrepancy in one or
both birth dates.] 14 One census record indicates James’ birth ca 1828.
Possible error in Daniel’s tombstone inscription or in reading same. Another
researcher says bd is 1825] Also discrepancy in identity of murderer: Cundiff
and Hays by one source and Howard Redneor, by another.

1839 Dec 16 KY, Laurel Co. KY General Assembly
established Laurel Co. library with 7 commissioners including John A. Slaughter
[?related to Lucinda's husband?] and G. W. Price. "if these commissioners ever
took action to organize a library they apparently made no record of the fact. It
is doubtful that they did because both the US Census reports and those of the KY
State Auditor indicate there were few books in the county." p 406 of A History

Price recorded estate as clerk.
1862 KY Clay Co. Recorded by G. W. Price 3 Apr 1863.
1864 KY, Clay Co. Major G. W .PRICE is listed several
times in the ledger of James W. Reid's store. This seems to indicate that he was
officer in some army. He was 63 years old and this is unlikely as he is too old
for Civil War and too young for 1812. It remains a mystery.

Possible DISCREPANCY
1874 Apr 4 KY, Clay Co. Last entry recorded as County
Clerk. Speculation that this indicates possibility of illness or death. He is
listed in 1870 census but not in 1880.
1874 KY, Clay Co. Vital Records Deaths 1874. He is NOT
listed. No records for 1873 in this book.
DISCREPANCY Possible that research may have been copied
in error. He can’t have died before he made his clerk entry. Perhaps his son,
Gabriel W. Price, Jr. age 21, acted as clerk.
