This Indenture made the 2nd day of January
1832 witnesseth that Lot P i t m a n Clerk of the Laurel County Court by
order of Thomas Jones, James P. Carpenter, and William G. Pitman, Esqr.
Justices of said court, do place and bind Joseph Farris orphan of James
Farris dec'd age 11 years the (blank) day of September last, apprentice
to James W. Green with him to dwell and serve from the date hereof, until
he shall arrive at the age of 21 years. He shall demean himself well
towards sd. Green and serve him on all lawful buisness during said term,
and said Green with Abraham Chestnut his security do bind themselves, their
heirs &c. to & with the said Pitman, clerk as aforesaid and his
successor in office that he will well instruct sd. apprentice in the buisness
of farming, and provide for him sufficent meat, drink, apparel, washing,
lodging, and mending, and all things fit & necessary for an apprentice,
and teach or cause him to be taught, reading, writting, and arithmetic,
including the rule of three and at the expiration of sd. term give him
three pounds ten shillings and a decent new suit of clothes; witness our
hand this the day and date first written.
