Apprentice Bond of Joseph Hicks 1834

This indenture made & entered into this 6th day of January 1834. Witnesseth that Lot P i t m a n Clerk of the Laurel County Court by order of J. Hibbard, Thomas Jones, James P. Carpenter, Wm. G. Pitman, John Mershon and Benjamin Catching, Justices of Sd. Court do place and bind Joseph Hicks aged 15 years in March 1833, orphan of Allen Hicks Decsd. to Aaron Johnson. With him to dwell & him to serve from the date hereof until he shall arrive at the age of 21 years. He shall demean himself well towards Sd. Johnson and serve him on all Lawful business during sd. term and sd. Johnson doth bind himself, his heirs & to & with the Sd. P i t m a n Clerk as aforesaid and his successors in office that he will well instruct sd. apprentice in the business of farming and provide for him sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, Lodging and mending and all things fit for & necessary for an apprentice and teach or cause him to be taught reading, writing and arithmetic including the rule of three and at the expiration of sd. term give him three pounds ten shillings and a decent Suit of Clothes. The foregoing indenture was acknowledged in open court the 6th day of January 1834 and the same is duly recorded. Given under my hand the 6th day of Jan. 1834.
