This Indenture made 25th day of September
1837 between William H. Randall Clerk of the Laurel County Court by order
of Thomas Jones, John Denson, John Casteel, John C. Brown, William Jackson,
and Thomas * Buford(?), Justices of said Court, of the one part and Bryson
Adams of the other part. Witness, That the said Randall as Clerk as by
order of the Court aforesaid does hereby place and Bind Lassie(?) a free
girl of Color aged 12 years the 4th day of January next as an apprentice
to Bryson Adams & the Court aforesaid by their Clerk aforesaid agree
that the said Lassie shall dwell with the sd. Adams from the date hereof
untill she shall arrive at the age of Eighteen. She shall demean her self
well towards her said master and serve him in all lawful business during
said Term of Service and said Adams together with John Phillips and Abraham
Chesnut his security doth bind themselves to and with the said Randall
as Clerk aforesaid and his successors in office that he will well instruct
Sd. Apprentice in the duties and mystery of Housewifery and provide for
her sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, lodging & ******* all
things fit and necessary for an apprentice and pay her the sum of twenty
dollars and furnish her a decent suit of new cloths at the expiration of
her service and to teach or cause her to be taught to spell and read so
as to read the new Testament with facility. Given under our hands this
25th day of September 1837.
