Apprentice Bond of George Rooks 1831

This Indenture made the 4th day of April 1831, Witness that Lot P i t m a n, Clerk of the Laurel County court, by order of B. Catching, Jas. P. Carpenter, Wm. G. Pitman, Thos. Jones, and P.S. Parker, Esqr. Justices of said court, do place and bind George Rooks, orphan of Polly Rooks, aged 4 years this 27th day May last, apprentice to Gabriel Davis. With him to live and him to dwell and serve in all Lawful business from the date hereof, until he shall arrive at the age of 21 years, and will demean himself and obediantly towards him during said term, And the said Gabriel Davis, and Jarvis Jackson, his security for themselves their heirs and doth covenant and agree to, and with, said Pitman and his sucessors in office that the sd. Davis will well instruct the said apprentice in the trade of farming ,and provide for him sufficent, meat, drink, apparel, washing, lodging and mending and all things fit for an apprentice. And teach or cause to be taught, reading, writting, and arithmetic including the rule of three and give him three pounds ten shillings and a decent new suit of clothes at the expiration of sd.term.
