This Indenture made the 8th(?) day of December 1840 Between William H. Randall, Clerk of the Laurel County Court by order of Benjamin Catching, John H. Slaughter(?), William Jones, P. L. Parker, and James? Carpenter Justices of said County of the one part and William W. Sexton of the sd. County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William H. Randall Clerk as afsd. doth hereby place and bind Nelson Sexton who will aged 4 years the 15th day of March 1841 apprentice to the sd. William W. Sexton with him to dwell and him to Serve from the date hereof untill he arrives at the age of twenty one years. During the said term the said apprentice his Said master Shall serve faithfully and in all Lawful business and shall honestly and obediently in all this demean himself towards his said master and all his lawful commands obey during said term and the said William W. Sexton for himself his heirs &c(?) doth Covenant and agree to and with the said William H. Randal and his successors in Office that the sd. Nelson Sexton as an apprentice he will well and truly instruct in the arts and mystery of farming during the said term of sd. and provide and allow the said apprentice Sufficient meats drink apparel washing lodging and mending and all other things fit and necessary for an apprentice and also cause the said apprentice to be taught reading writing and Arithmetic including the rule of three and to pay him the said aprentice the Sum of three pounds ten Shillings and a decent Suit of New cloths at the expiration of sd. Term. In testimony whereof the sd. William Sexton and John S. Edwards his Security hath hereunto Set their hand and Seals this day and date above.
