Served with his son, Vincent Boreing. Member of the GAR. Mr. Boreing was born in Washington County, Tenn., February 14, 1813, removed to Laurel County in the year 1848, where he spent the greater portion of his life. He died in Feb., 1887. Enlisted as a Pvt. 1 Nov., 1861 and was later commissioned as an officer for meritorious conduct. He was born near Jonesboro, Washington County, Tenn., November 24, 1839; moved with his father to Laurel County in 1847; attended Laurel Seminary, London, Ky., and Tusculum College, Greenville, Tenn. He was the county superintendent of public schools 1868-1872. He established the Mountain Echo at London, Ky., in 1875, the first Republican newspaper published in southeastern Kentucky. He became county judge in 1886. He was president of the Cumberland Valley Land Co. in 1887 and president of the First National Bank of London in 1888. He served as department commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in Kentucky in 1889. He was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-sixth, Fifty-seventh, and Fifty-eighth Congresses and served from March 4, 1899, until his death in London, Laurel County, Ky., September 16, 1903; interment is in Pine Grove Cemetery. Served from Nov. 18, 1861, served 3 years and was wounded. Absent without leave from Jan 26, 1863 to Mar. 31, 1863. He died at Douglas, Kansas March 26, 1916. His father, Samuel F. Cline, and brother, John Whitfiedl Cline, both served in the 10th KY Infantry. Samuel survived the war and died at Holden Hills, Missouri July 1, 1894. John was born Nov. 7th 1848 and died March 10th at Nashville, Tennessee during the Civil War. Submitted by unknown. Coldwell, Dr. Thomas Peyton - Capt. (later Major), Commander of Laurel County's Co. K (Coldwell's Co.), 7th KY Infantry, USA. He was the son of Captain Andrew Forgey Coldwell, commander of Laurel County's company during the Mexican War, and Francis "Fannie" Jones. After the Civil War he got his MD from the University of Louisville Medical School and practiced medicine for over 50 years in London, Laurel Co., KY. Dr. Coldwell was born 24 Feb 1842 in Perry Co., KY and died 26 Feb., 1923 at London, Laurel Co., KY. He is buried in London, KY. Eversole, Abner - 2Lt., 14th KY Volunteer Cavalry, USA. First joined the 6th KY Cavalry, USA. Wounded in the Battle of Richmond. Then he joined up as a 2Lt. in the 14th KY Cavalry. He was born 13 Jan. 1843, to Joe and Sally Bowling Eversole. When the war was over he returned to Perry county, and in 1870 he began a term as county assessor. After three years as Perry Co. assessor, he moved to Laurel Co., and in 1877 was elected to the state legislature from the Laurel-Rockcastle district. He lived in Laurel Co. until 1888. He is buried in Section I, grave number 392. He was married to Sinia Frazier and they had 6 children. His daughter, Susan Gregory, married William Reed Watkins on 29 Jan., 1877 in London, KY. C. - Capt., Co. C, 2nd North Carolina Mounted Inf. He enlisted and then was elected Capt. of his company and served for 3 years. Towards the end of his life he emigrated to the West and lived with his daughter, Mrs. Mary Jones, of Tallequah, Indian Territory where he died 24 Mar., 1902. Hardigree, David - Pvt., Co. A, 12th Georgia Battalion (Newnan Artillery), CSA. Reported missing 16 Oct 1862 Big Hill, KY. After the battle of Big Hill he thought he saw brother Edwin in a wagon of dead and never saw him again. Listed as deserter after the battle. Captured by the union forces he then joined as a Pvt. in Co. K, 13th Regt TN Vol. Cavalry, USA. Ashamed of having fought against Confederates, he never returned to his home state and settled in Kentucky. Pension number is 546421. David was born on 10 Aug, 1844 in Holmes Co., MS to Hiram Hardigree and Mary Coleman. David was 1st married to Sarah Anne Asher and had 3 children. He then married Margaret "Peggy" Asher and had 2 children. David Hardigree died on 26 Aug, 1919 at Brock, Laurel Co., Ky and is buried at Mary Dell in Laurel Co., KY. Wood, part of the Army of the Ohio commanded by Major Gen Don Carlos Buell. Brigade loss: 4 wounded. This battle was a Confederate victory. PERRYVILLE, KY, 8 Oct 1862. This battle was a Union victory. The 24th KY commanded by Col Lewis Braxton Grigsby, was part of the 21st brigade commanded by Col George D. Wagner, part of the 6th division commanded by Brig Gen Thomas J. Wood, part of the 2nd Army Corps commanded by Major Gen Thomas L. Crittenden, part of the Army of the Ohio commanded by Major General Don Carlos Buell. The brigade was only slightly engaged in the battle and only had 2 men missing. ATLANTA CAMPAIGN, 3 May - 8 Sep 1864. The 24th KY commanded by Col John S. Hurt, was part of the 2nd brigade commanded by Brig Gen Mahlon D. Manson, was part of the 3rd division commanded by Brig Gen Jacob D. Cox, which was part of the Army of the Ohio (23rd Corps) commanded by Major Gen John M. Schofield, which was part of the Union Army commanded by Major Gen William T. Sherman. In the OR, a report from Col John S. Hurt, dated 7 July 1864, states '...skirmishers thrown forward, under 1st Lt Johnson, Co A, and joined upon those of Gen Hascall's division, and here occurred one of the most brilliant skirmishes I ever witnessed. Lt Johnson, though having but 20 men, captured 10 of the enemy. Six of the enemy's dead were found in his front.' KNOXVILLE, TN, 17 Nov - 4 Dec 1863 This siege was a Union success. C, 7th KY Volunteer Infantry, USA. His dates of service are September 22, 1861 to Febuary 29, 1864. Washington Owens was born December 12, 1837 in Laurel Co., Ky to Reuben and Fanny (Hatfield) Owens. He mustered in at Camp Dick Robinson. His pension records show that in July and August of 1863 he was in the hospital in New Orleans, La. He suffered with symptoms which could have been malaria. His first pension application was in 1892, at which time it was rejected. He did apply for pension again in 1895 and in 1907 was approved for $12 a month. Submitted by Geri Owens Repasy. Was carried as such on muster rolls until the company mustered out in Jan., 1865. No pension record has been located. Allen Pinkston was born abt 1811 - 1814 in Madison Co., KY. He was a resident of Laurel Co., KY from about 1857 - ?.
